Notes
The rose is made as a long strip of petals, then rolled and sewn into shape.
You can adjust hook size for a smaller or larger flower.
If using lightweight yarn, add a few more chains at the start for a fuller rose.
Pattern
Step 1 – Foundation
Ch 51 (for a medium rose — add or subtract chains in multiples of 5 for size adjustment).
Step 2 – First Petal Layer
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next 3 ch) repeat across, turn.
Step 3 – Build Petals
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), in first ch-1 space work (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) — this forms your first petal.
In next ch-1 space work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) — repeat in each ch-1 space to end, turn.
Step 4 – Second Petal Layer (optional for fullness)
Row 3: Sl st to first ch-2 space, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, repeat across in each ch-2 space.
Step 5 – Shape the Rose
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Starting at one end of the strip, roll it into a spiral to form a rose shape.
Use the yarn tail to stitch through the base several times to secure.
Optional Leaf
Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next, sl st in last.
Fasten off and sew to base of rose.
Finishing Touches
Steam lightly for shape.
Sew onto hats, scarves, or gift wrap for decoration.
